My international client, based in Manchester are looking for a Tax Manager. This position will involve managing all day to day aspects of the in-house UK tax compliance function as well as supporting and implementing tax planning initiatives in the UK.
Key responsibilities:
* Preparation and review of all corporation tax returns for submission to HMRC.
* Control of the overall group relief, capital allowance and capital loss position of the UK group, including modeling the UK tax position to achieve optimum tax efficiency.
* Monitoring of UK thin capitalisation position, and to perform key tasks, including extensive modelling to support negotiations.
* Monitor the compliance of the UK group with transfer pricing rules.
* First point of contact for HMRC on day to day corporation tax issues.
* Assistance with the resolution of all UK audit enquiries through written correspondence and formal meetings with HMRC covering a wide range of UK and international tax issues.
* Key participant in tax planning initiatives for the UK, including developing ideas to minimize the effective tax rate and cash.
* Review of the corporate tax and deferred tax provisions for inclusion in the local GAAP financial statements and liaison with the company’s tax auditors.
* Evaluation of UK tax reserves and contingencies to support US GAAP reporting requirements.
* Provision of adhoc corporation tax advice and support to the UK business on operational issues, particularly around permanent establishment risks.
* Ensuring compliance with UK tax legislation and monitoring the impact of changes in the UK tax legislation on the group.
* Perform primary due diligence in relation to corporate tax for any M&A activity in the UK. Document and discuss conclusions, and flag any issues arising as necessary. Review legal documents and advise on appropriate wording.
The candidate must be ACA/CTA qualified with:
* Minimum 3 years PQE working for either one of the Big 4 or in a tax role in industry.
* Strong UK corporation tax experience.
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills; will interface with individuals at all levels of the organization both in and out of Tax
* Comfortable working in a team environment.
* Undergraduate in Accounting or Finance preferred.

Position Summary:
This role is responsible for ensuring that Discovery complies with all tax regulations and reporting requirements in the EMEA countries outside of UK, Germany, Italy and Netherlands.
Responsibilities:
Manage all aspects of tax compliance and tax reporting for Discovery's European operations (excluding UK, Germany, Italy and Netherlands). This includes management of income tax filings, local GAAP tax accounting requirements and tax audits
Manage monthly and quarterly tax accounting and reporting process in accordance with US GAAP principles and US based Corporate Tax team requirements.
Manage preparation of local GAAP tax disclosures in financial statements.
Manage inbound and outbound withholding tax reporting for the region.
Manage day to day relationship, budget and service levels from external tax advisors across relevant European countries.
Manage any SOX compliance and appropriate administration and documentation requirements.
Support payroll and HR in ensuring appropriate employment taxes are applied across relevant European countries.
Key contact for finance teams and wider European business on any taxation issues and considerations (outside of UK, Germany, Italy and Netherlands).
Consider ways to make tax savings across European region, and assess the commerciality of tax planning initiatives
Support the US based VP of International Tax in the areas of tax strategy, structuring and planning in European countries.
Ensuring technical development and training for CEEMEA and non-SSC local finance groups on relevant tax developments
Ad hoc tax and business projects as required
Requirements:
Essential
At least 5 to 8 years of advanced tax experience and broad knowledge of the following:
European, particularly Eastern European countries, tax compliance and audits.
Tax forecasting
Foreign tax credit and cash repatriation planning.
US GAAP and IFRS accounting for income taxes
VAT, employment taxes and other non-income tax issues.
Strong tax technical and analytical skills and some project management experience
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment, meet stringent deadlines, lead and drive projects, and work under pressure
Excellent attention to detail
Professional oral and written communication skills
Strong organisational and interpersonal skills
Diplomatic and able to influence stakeholders
Able to interact and manage relationships effectively within the finance team and auditors, outsourced accountants and other external advisors.

Tax planning arises as a matter of course across the group's diverse portfolio.
Role includes the preparation of corporation tax computations and returns (CT600s). General compliance including keeping records of tax payments, advising clients of key filing and payment dates and communicating with the HM Revenue & Customs where necessary.
Skills / Experience (Essential):
* Relevant experience at CT senior level in a corporate tax role in practice, with experience of using computerised tax packages. We will also consider someone with mixed tax experience.
* Candidates must be part or fully CTA qualified.
* Be able to deliver first class client service and work effectively as part of a team.
