Research Economist to join a product team in a world leading consultancy specialising in commodities (commodities experience not essential) . With a 2.1/1st from a good economics university (probably a MA/MSc or equiv) and commercial experience; you will have excellent communication skills in English; commercial awareness; a strong interest in industry and market analysis; and be able to work to deadlines. Ideally with a second European language; you should be prepared to undertake some travel; and be proficient in Word & Excel.

You must be an EC national, UK PR or HSMP.

The company has an international client base that includes all segments of the soft commodities industry, ranging from growers to traders, processors, end-users, financial institutions, trade associations, governments and international organisations.

You will work in a specific team building-up expertise in a commodities area, undertaking research assignments both for individual clients and for multi-clients. This is a real opportunity to develop research skills, offering the possibility to advance rapidly in salary and experience within the consulting practice.
In the role you will meet international players in the sectors that the practice serves; understand their concerns; formulate, in rigorous economic terms but simple language, ideas about the economic forces shaping an industrial sector; and find the statistics and other information needed to generate, test and modify these hypotheses. This information is often in obscure places and in foreign languages.
You need to organise and present data effectively; use software (primarily Microsoft Office suite) to bring projects to the point of printing; and complete a project to deadline and within budget.

Salary will depend on experience and qualifications but is likely to be in the range £25K to £40K with benefits. There are entry points for more experienced economists as well as less experienced economists.
